Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic Massage is a very gentle, relaxing therapy which stimulates the lymphatic system without increasing the blood flow.

It supports and enhances the nervous system, thus relieving stress. Improves the immune system. It helps minimize scar formation. It helps us heal more quickly from injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions, and swelling.

Dr. Vodder method of MLD (Lymphatic Massage)

Developed in France in 1932 by Emil and Estrid Vodder MLD has grown to be the most well known manual technique to assist lymph flow and aid in drainage of tissues. The skin is stretched and torqued in a specific manner, based on scientific, physiological principles that have proven to encourage lymph flow. If performed correctly with the correct pressure, direction and speed, this can greatly enhance recovery and facilitate drainage. It also has profound effects on systems in the body.

Benefits

MLD also has a pain relieving effect and can be used with recent trauma, such as sport injuries. MLD can also be used in the care of individuals with conditions such as venous stasis ulceration, adhesive capsulitis, arthritic conditions, acute whiplash, Meniéres Syndrome, sinusitis, and migraines, as well as pre- and post- plastic surgery.

What to expect in a session

Lymphatic massage requires access to the skin and superficial tissues of the body. Only the area being worked on will be undraped at any given time. Techniques are applied with a light touch with all sessions beginning in the neck region to encourage drainage. For those with multiple areas of swelling, injury or surgery it’s best to book your initial visit for 90mins. Based on your assessment you and your therapist will decide on the right treatment plan for future visits. Please let your therapist know if you require bandaging or taping.
